The OceanIO platform validates both BN and BL according to the major Carriers proprietary rules:

| Maersk/Sealand | BN/BL must have a length of either 9 or 13 chars depending on whether a prefix is added. |
| CMA, APL, CNC, ANL | BN/BL must have a maximum length of 12 chars. |
| ONE | BN/BL must have a length of either 12 or 16 chars depending on whether a prefixed with ONEY is added. |
| Hapag | BN can have a maximum length of 8 chars, and must only consist of numbers. BL must have a length of 16, and the first 4 characters must be “HLCU”. |
| MSC + other Carriers | No validation. |
| COSCO | BoL / Booking must only contain numbers. Any Cosco prefix is allowed. |
| Evergreen | Must only consist of numbers. Prefix allowed |
| Hamburg | BN must have a minimum length of 10 chars. |
| Wan Hai | BN must have a length of 10 chars. |
| ZIM | BL can have a maximum length of 16. BoL must start with “ZIMU”, followed by 3 A/N letters, followed by 6-9 numbers. |
| Sinolines | BoL must include a verification in form of a equipment reference. The format must be “BILL_OF_LADING_NUMBER-EQUIPMENT_REFERENCE”. BN is not supported |
| SM Line | BN/BL must have a length of 12 chars. |
| Alianca | Booking numbers for Alianca must contain only letters and numbers, and be of length 10 or 14. Bill of lading numbers for Alianca must contain only letters and numbers, and be of length 12 or 16. |
